ReachOut – Mobile App
Duration: January 2020 – February 2020
Tools: Figma, Adobe Illustrator, and Overflow
In Collaboration With: Ren Blanding, and Kainani Gruspe
Project Description: In this group project, we created a hypothetical mobile application, that focuses on serving San Luis Obispo County’s residents. The app provides services, outreach options, and resources for mental health.
Challenges: One of our major challenges was the sensibility raised with this topic. Although we wanted the app to be more user friendly and professional the same time, the wording in the app was what caused us some trouble when initially creating this app. Aside from that, we also came across challenges with the endless possibilities how we could go about this app. Such as potential resources and design structure.
Solutions: To solve our challenge on wording and sensibility we did a bunch of user testing, this included classmates and friends. By doing these user testing and observation, we were able to create a much more friendly yet professional mental health app. On top of that, we looked through different apps already in the market and analyzed some of the features we would like to incorporate in our app without overwhelming our users.
“ReachOut breaks down the walls surrounding mental health discussion.”
Description: ReachOut is a mobile app that opens up the discussion of mental health between the user and their potential support network: friends, family, coworkers, mentors, etc. The age group that we want to target with this mobile app is transitional aged youth, which are 16-25 year olds. One of our goals is getting the user to know how they feel and showing them the resources available to them within San Luis Obispo County.
Purpose: People are afraid to speak up and the social stigma that comes with mental health often hinders people from reaching out. We want to be the bridge for our user and offer ways that they can reach out to their social network or seek out professional guidance.
