Friends of 40 Prado – Informational Website
Duration: February 2020 – March 2020
Tools: Adobe XD, After Effects, and Illustrator
Project Overview: The goal of this project is to create an informational website for an existing non-profit organization. I chose my local homeless shelter as I think they are doing a great job providing resources for the homeless population in San Luis Obispo. Another objective was to also create micro-interactions that would enhance the website. Here is the link to the Friends of 40 Prado website.
Challenges: This was my first time using After Effects and creating small animations. During the process I also came along with the struggle of create an informational website that isn’t just pretty but it is also useful and takes into the sensibility this topic could be for some people.
Solution: Although, I struggled through learning After Effects, I really enjoyed the process and I can see myself using it even more for personal projects. This informational website was made to create an easy access to homelessness resources and ways in which one could donate or help out.
Background Information: The mission of the Friends of 40 Prado is to provide support funding for operation of 40 Prado, CAPSLO’s center for homeless people in our community helping them find a level of self-sufficiency appropriate to each individual. Some of the services that they offer include job counseling and skills assessment, enriching, age-appropriate activities for children, daily meals provided by People’s Kitchen, bus tokens for local bus routes to essential service sites, and many more services. They provide so many resources for being the main homeless shelter in San Luis Obispo, however many of their services and resources get lost in their website, so I wanted to emphasize them better with my design.
